This translation of Tolstoy's Complete Works is amazing. It contains all of his great works, including 'War and Peace' and 'Anna Karenina.' The text is easy to understand, but yet it remains faithful to the original Russian. It depicts the subtle philosophies Tolstoy employs in his original writing and provokes the thought of the reader through every story. In the novels, one sees the subliminal thoughts of the characters throughout their quest to find something that will satisfy them, and there are the themes of Tolstoyan wisdom employed in each book. In the essays, Tolstoy's voice is translated in the way he would have spoke if one had been reading Russian in the first place. His voice is honest, authoritative, upright, and confessional. The translators caught his ethos in just the right way that it sounds like the wise man himself. The plays are just as good. They are thought-provoking, relatable, empathizing, didactic, moral, and understandable. All of these were faithful to the original Russian and captures Tolstoy's mind and heart with just the right potential. It captures all the subtleties, nuances, syntax, and semantics of Tolstoy's writing, including his authorial voice, his personal thoughts, his tone, and his intentions. Brilliantly written, I couldn't have seen a better volume of all of Tolstoy's work in one place. To the greatest author who ever lived, may Tolstoy live on for generations to come.

I ordered this book for my husband because he loves Tolstoy so much. He has gotten a great deal of pleasure from having Tolstoy's complete works, and has read some selections he probably wouldn't have otherwise.

Illistrations are nice and of course having the complete works is awesome. I haven't read them all yet but plan to in the future. If you like Tolstoy, this is definately a must have.

Still fresh and relevant today! Tolstoy truly had an unusually perceptive view of life and saw human nature at its very core.

I think that is truly remarkable that I was able to purchase and put on my Kindle all of the writings of Tolstoy.
It is surely one of the best bargains I have ever encountered.

Rating reflects OCR errors, not Tolstoy's writing which is amazing. I lost count of the number of times I saw Vol6dya (yes that's a number six). Voldaya was a main character of one of the stories.

I would gladly pay a little more if it meant we got at least a rudimentary proofreading.

A collection of most of Tolstoy's work for free. This is truly a present and a full meal for any interested in this man who not only documented life in Russia but established the classic style of Russian literature.

This is without doubt the most amazing purchase I have ever made for my Amazon Kindle reading app! The literary genius of Leo Tolstoy is on offer here for all to see and you will not be disappointed! Regarded by many as one of the world's all-time greatest writers, Delphi Classics complete works brings together all of Tolstoy's greatest literary achievements into one bumper edition! What makes this collection so truly spectacular is that it does precisely what the title suggests, containing every single novel ever written, the complete collection of all his short stories, his entire series of plays, a three-part biography which covers his entire life story, unfinished material that was never published before, and a number of writings by other famous writers and well-known scholars, all of whom have studied extensively and exhaustively researched the various works of Leo Tolstoy. This Kindle app version of the Russian author's complete works is a genuine masterpiece with absolutely every single thing beautifully translated into English for the very first time! What makes this Leo Tolstoy collection even more unbelievable is the unbeatable price of less than two pounds - how amazing an example is that of the phrase " value for money ". IF YOU ENJOY THE BOOKS OF LEO TOLSTOY, THEN BUYING THIS ONE WILL BE THE BEST BARGAIN YOU EVER FOUND AND QUITE POSSIBLY A SALE OF THE DECADE!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Delphi bargain
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 10, 2012
I am becoming addicted to the amazing bargains like this one that Delphi produce. Here is the Maude translation of "War and Peace", and all the other novels, but also so much more, like Tolstoy's journal. As I get more used to using the Kindle, zipping around inside a massive collection like this becomes easier, and you get used to not knowing precisely the page you are on in a novel when you can quickly find the contents and chapter listings etc. But as well as being able to free up shelf space in my study, I also have access to all the peripheral works of Tolstoy that I would not normally think of buying, and it is so easy to browse and explore these rarer writings. Delphi do a very sincere job in making a quality product at a price that is, frankly, peanuts.

Note that if you buy directly from Delphi's website, you have access to free updates, which I don't think are as yet quite so easy to obtain from Amazon - but this may be changing so check on the latest situation!

But if it says "Delphi" on the front you can rely on really great value for money.
